QUICKIE SELF-PORTRAIT + UPDATE

Sorry for the lack of posts here. Been working hard the past months, mostly doing a lot of various drawing projects and working on my animated series Elvis & Benny. Exciting stuff. Next to that travelled to the UK and Berlin with my girlfriend to hang out with some cool artists. I'm going to update about it soon because I did some fun collabs. In the meantime here's a quickie self-portrait.

AP DMA Class of 2016

As this year comes to a close, I wanted to take this opportunity to send out the web links to the portfolios of the 14 AP DMA Seniors that will be graduating in a few short days.  If you have a minute, take a look at the wonderful work they have created during their time in high school.  These talented students are looking for internships, commissions, networking, and job opportunities that will help them achieve their future career goals.  If you like their work, please contact them directly for your photography, illustration, design, animation, video and filmmaking needs!  Please forward their portfolios to anyone you know who might be interested in their work.

Last Post

Since this is my last post ever it's only fitting I do it a day late and at the last minute.
DMA has been my favorite class since freshman year and Shields and Barnes have been my favorite teachers. Without them I wouldn't be going to college for something I'm passionate about (real talk: I probably wouldn't even be going to college.) I can't thank them enough for all the time and advice they've given me over the last 4 years. And to my DMA class: you pale pasty awkward art kids have been the most fun class of weirdos I could have asked for and some my best moments of high school are with you guys. Now some wise words for future DMA kids. Number one; when being arrested while watching house hunters, always remember to hit record. Number two; always make the best of a situation: example, when I was in prison for a day, did I just sit in my cell the entire time? NO--I went out there and challenged those delinquents to a game of Yahtzee and made some life long friends. Number three; this is the most important, when skipping school with DMA kids, always make it a memorable day. For example, go downtown and get kicked out of a sex toy store for forgetting your ID and then go to the art museum and touch the Van Gogh painting when no one's looking.
And now I say goodbye. I loathed almost everything about Kings High School (did I mention they sent me to prison) but DMA made it bearable so thanks for that. Next year I'll be attending the School of Visual Arts in New York City where I’ll be majoring in design, and I expect all of the 2016 AP DMA class to come visit me. No matter how far we move away from each other never forget YAHTZEE!!!!

Peace out fam

So, it's my last blog post. I just want to take this post to thank everyone who helped me out through my DMA struggles, and to give some advice to the upcoming AP DMA kids.
I wanna thanks both Shields and Barnes for dealing with my craziness for the past 4 years, I know I've been a handful, so thank you guys for putting up with me. And thanks to my AP DMA fam for being the best class I could have wished for. You guys are some of my best friends and even though we're all going to different schools, I'll be sure to stalk you guys on social media and text you nonstop.
Here's some advice to the new AP DMAers-- Shields is always right. Even if she tells you something you don't want to hear, or if she critiques your favorite project, in the end her vision is seldom wrong. Don't take it personally, she's just improving you as an artist. The class is hard, the workload is intense, but it's the best class I've ever taken. It's more fun than DMA 1 because you get to really explore your strengths and passions. Don't give up halfway through the year- keep trying hard on everything you do even if you don't feel like it. Also, don't get too attached to your first Concentration idea, because you're probably going to change it a billion times before you settle on one idea. It's a process.
I'm going to be attending the University of Cincinnati, College of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning (DAAP) for Communication Design this fall. This class really helped me decide what to do after high school and I'm so excited to do digital art for the rest of my life.
Also, Check out my sick website!! http://abbeyketterer.wix.com/portfolio
Idk who is even gonna read this but oh well!!
Byeeeeeeeeee

I just want to say good luck to all the seniors that are going into college next year and starting fresh with their lives and achieving their goals. I also choose this picture because the sunset looks amazing and that how all of you seniors should look at college...like its paradise.

Final goodbye to 2016

Hi I'm Keenan Williams. I just want to say my final goodbye to everyone in DMA. I've had a great year doing all different types of work. Next year I will be attending the University to Cincinnati to major in Business Communication. Thanks for such a great year!!

Talbert House Serenity Hall Mural

For the last ten years in May, an army of over 8,000 volunteers has impacted Cincinnati through various service projects in a one-day, citywide blitz of compassion called GO Cincinnati.

This year the AP DMA class got involved by designing a mural that would be painted by volunteers at the Talbert House Serenity Hall in Hamilton.  Talbert House helps children, adults and families coping with substance use, mental health and/or involvement in the legal system to support positive growth and change. Serenity Hall is a community corrections programs for federal and state offenders that offers assessment, treatment, and reintegration for adult male ex-offenders in a residential setting. Services include case management, chemical dependency treatment, criminality/behavior modification, restitution and child support, frequent and random drug testing, education, employment readiness, verified and monitored community employment, and a variety of supportive activities.

AP DMA worked together with this organization to create a design that met their request that focused on trees and birds in flight.  Each student in AP DMA created two stencils of birds in flight. This past Saturday, Emily Hoyle, Corrine Brown, along with their parents, Mrs. Barnes, Mr & Mrs. Shields, and other volunteers from Crossroads Community Church created this mural.  Mural volunteers traced around stencils and painted the bird silhouette in black. Three trees in shades of blue and the  Serenity Prayer completed the design.

Good Luck Class to 2016

Even though I am a junior, I am wishing the senior class good luck with all their goals and objectives as they embark on a new chapter of their lives. As a result, I choose this photo to represent that we are all starting a journey that is pretty and memorable.

Hey guys, Mackenzie here! This will be my final blog post of the year and for the remainder of my life actually! I'm attending Miami University next year and plan to study Art Education! I'd first like to give a huge shout out to the 2016 AP DMA Class! You guys were awesome, I couldn't have asked for better people to have mental breakdowns and freak outs with ;) Secondly I'd like to thank Mrs. Shields, Mrs. Barnes, and Doug Leist for always guiding me in the right direction. Even when times were tough I always knew that these three would have my back no matter what. I'd also like to thank in particular, Emily Hoyle and Abbey Ketterer for always being there for me. It's hard to find friends like you guys, so I'm not letting go anytime soon :) Finally. I'd like to thank someone near and dear to my heart...and his name is...P. Sherman. Sherman, you've got me through a lot this year. You were there when I finally passed my first Adobe Test, you were there when I had to turn in those awful eggs I drew, you were even there when I found out that 'Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them' was coming out in November! I'll never forget you P. You definitely put the 'Good' in 'Good Dinosaur.'
'Till we meet again!

For the last time ever, hi all! Katrina Kessler here and this is my final goodbye post. Next year, I will be attending Miami University for Graphic Design and without AP DMA, I would probably going into nursing or something entirely different (shout out to Michael Phelan for making me take DMA 1). AP DMA was at times the bane of my existence, but that was just because I'm a lazy procrastinator. As long as you don't take after me if you continue your DMA journey, you'll have an amazing time! Above is a very low quality image of one of my concentration pieces, Virgo. If you couldn't tell, that's me, which I thought was fitting for my goodbye. A selfie to remember me by and my art all combined into one. Perfection.
Anyways, it was nice knowin' ya.
Thank you for reading my long blog posts and good luck next year!!

Kelly McHugh

Hi! Wow- It's so crazy how this is going to be my last blog post. Taking DMA has been a fun experience.  I definitely feel like my art has improved since the start but also it shows alot more of my personality and style. Taking this class has helped me find myself and my own style. Shout out to Mrs. Shields and Mrs. Barnes for always being super helpful. Wishing everyone the best for the future!

XOXO,
Kelly McHugh

Goodbye fam

Hey everyone!
I can't believe how fast this year has gone by. I am so thankful for having DMA in my life. Without DMA I would have no idea what to do with my life. I love graphic design and digital art, and I am so glad to have the opportunity to find that passion. I have taken Intro to DMA,DMA 1, and AP DMA. I have also been on the yearbook staff for 3 years. Next year I will be attending OSU with a double major in graphic design and marketing. Good luck to everyone next year! Most importantly, a big thank you to Mrs. Shields and Mrs. Barnes for their countless hour of patience and support through out high school. You guys are truly amazing.

Goodbye

GOODBYES

Hey guys! It's Josh again with my last post to this blog!!! These are paintings done by Shang Chengxiang. They have a surreal/ dreamlike feel to them. I thought these were appropriate as we each head off on new adventures since these paintings remind me of the dreams/goals we all have. I am heading off to The Ohio University majoring in Food Science and Technology with some sort of business minor. I had a lot of fun in DMA this year and I wish you all the best of luck!

last post

As this class comes to an end, I am thankful for this year and all that I've learned and the progress I've made. I have definitely grown not only as an artist, but as a person. I fell in love with directing and movie making, and I will be attending The University of Alabama this fall and majoring in film. I can't wait for the journey to come, and I'm thankful for all Mrs. Barnes has taught me!

Last post of DMA I

I was scrolling through Pinterest one day and I saw this. I really like this piece because of the different ways the scenery was used to manipulate the girls' attire. I also really like their hand gestures because those are seen more often today. This piece makes me really excited for AP next year and anything to come afterwards.

Peace Out

Hello and goodbye all. DMA has always been my go to class and by far my favorite. At first DMA was kind of just for fun and nothing I wanted to deal with in the future, but after a while I started to realize that I loved it and wanted to do it forever. I have taken 3 years of DMA, including intro, DMA 1, and AP. I have learned about so many things like design skills and photography, but most important, I have learned about myself. It has taught me how to interact with others and how to deal with stressful situations. If you every have doubts about taking DMA, just do it.
This coming fall I will be attending Ohio University, Scripps School of Visual Communications, studying Informational Design: Publications. In simple terms, I will be doing graphic design in a communications degree instead of fine arts. Thank you to everyone who has helped me get to where I am!

The Final Post

Hey everyone. This picture is the most recent one I've taken and one of the last ones I'll take in this class. DMA has shaped my future and helped me decide what I one day plan to do with my career. This class has been truly amazing for me and I'm so glad that this school offers such an awesome class and I'm glad I had the opportunity to take this class. Goodbye everyone. Hope to see you all again and see what you guys are capable of and you enjoy it as much as I did.

Love, Morgan

Hey guys it's Morgan FitzGerald! So sad this is my last post on this blog but at the same time I'm honestly glad to leave high school. I have been in DMA for 3 years now from DMA intro to AP DMA. I have grown as an artist and am so proud of everything I have accomplished. Here is one of my favorite pieces I have created from my AP Concentration. The theme of this artwork is "NSA Spying" and am in love with how the digital collage turned out. After high school, I am going to major in Graphic Design at UC DAAP. I will dearly miss Kings and DMA.

Love, Morgan

I absolutely love the texture this painting has. I also really love the bright color of the lips and nose but somehow they work and really pull the painting together even though they aren't neutral/normal colors.
